This is for people who do not want to ride the Kuranda Skyrail or want to purchase just their train tickets on their own. There are four options here. You have the option of buying a One Way ticket in either direction or a Return ticket on the Train, with or without hotel transfers.

This option is for people who do not want to ride on the Skyrail. The Kuranda Scenic Railway journey takes approximately one and a half hours each way. You can board the train bound for Kuranda from either the Cairns Rail Station in downtown Cairns, or from Freshwater Rail Station which is 10 minutes drive out of Cairns. You can also buy a ticket for the train from Kuranda Rail Station to Cairns or Freswater Rail stations. 

For these "ticket only" options, you will need to make your own way to the train station or you can be driven there by a shuttle bus which is an option to add to your Train tickets.

This train operate everyday of the year except for 16-17 Nov, and 1, 2, 14, 15, 25 Dec due to maintenance. You must book a time to ride the train when you make a booking. It takes approximately one and half hours each way on the train.

Train times going up from Cairns to Kuranda: 8.30am or 9.30am only. 

Train times going down from Kuranda to Cairns: 2.00pm or 3.30pm only

Booking Information

Departs daily except for 25 December. You must book a time to ride the train when you make a booking.

Train times going up from Cairns or Freshwater Rail Stations to Kuranda: 8.30am or 9.30am only.

Train times going down from Kuranda to Cairns or Freshwater Rail Stations: 2.00pm or 3.30pm only

You must book a time to ride the Train, when you make a booking.

A family is classed as 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 - 14 years.
Child policy: A child is classed as someone aged 4 - 14 years.
Infant policy: Children aged 0-3 years are free of charge.

Optional Extras:
Upgrade to a Gold Class Seat on the Train: $45 per person or $180 per family. Includes drinks, finger food, gold class attendant, a wonderful complimentary souvenir pack including a pewter stick-pin, a postcard and postage to anywhere in the world will complete the splendid KSR Gold Class experience.

Booking Policy

As these are ticket packages and not tours, no further discounts apply. A 10% booking deposit is required at the time of booking.

It takes approximately one and half hours each way on the train.
